[K7-M] Trek Mitchell Falls: Fly/4WD/Hike Day Tour

An adventure packed day with Kingfisher Tours showcases the iconic Mitchell River Falls.

Departing Kununurra at 06:30am we head west to the Cockburn Ranges and Pentecost River and then onwards over the heart of the north-central Kimberley to the Mitchell Plateau.

At 0800 we arrive at the Mitchell Plateau airfield and board Kingfisher’s 4WD coach for the 20km drive to the Ranger Base and the start of the 4.5km Punamii-unpuu Hiking Trail to the Mitchell Falls.

Along the way there is ample opportunity to rest, paddle and explore the awesome Little Merton’s and Big Merton’s Falls and the ancient rock art sites featuring the extraordinary Gwion Gwion spirit figures.

Arriving at the spectacular Mitchell Falls at around midday, it is time to find the perfect picnic spot and enjoy the gourmet lunch prepared for you. For the next 2 hours you are free to wander and explore the escarpment and swim in the upstream (crocodile free) waterholes.

We next rendezvous at the Mitchell Falls Helipad for an exhilarating chopper ride over the Falls back to Base and 4WD return to the airfield.  On the homeward flight we detour to the Cambridge Gulf, the pioneer town of Wyndham and the extraordinary Lower Ord wetlands. The rich farmlands of the Ord Irrigation Scheme guide us back to Kununurra airport as the sun is setting behind us.

This is a spectacular full day excursion you will never forget!
