Mitchell Falls Explorer
Explore the beauty of the Mitchell River National Park where the diverse Kimberley scenery and the popular Mitchell Falls will take your breath away. Included is a landing at Mitchell Plateau Airfield for an outback morning tea.
Departing Kununurra we track along the Ord River towards House Roof Hill, the backdrop for the movie “Australia”. Next we pass over the Lower Ord wetlands and the old port of Wyndham before tracking over the rugged interior towards WA’s most remote township of Kalumburu.
We overfly the King Edward River, the historic WWII Truscott Airfield, Admiralty Gulf, and the pearl farms of Vansittart Bay.
Leaving this isolated and pristine coast, our next destination is the Mitchell River and the picturesque Mitchell Falls.
Next we land at the Mitchell Plateau airfield, another WWII remnant, for an outback morning tea. Dotted with palm trees, this unique location offers an opportunity to stretch your legs and closely survey the unique flora of this bauxite rich plateau.
En route back to Kununurra we experience the panoramic beauty of the Cockburn Ranges, and the popular Home Valley and El Questro stations at their base. The vast Ord Irrigation Area, and the Diversion Dam on the Ord River are highlighted with our arrival back in Kununurra.
